It's all for the cause

This past weekend was the Salt Lake City Race for the Cure. I can't remember how many times I have participated in this event. Each year it falls on Mother's Day weekend and for many years I spent the day with my mom; Celebrating her life and celebrating her for fighting breast cancer. The 2007 Race for the Cure is one of the memories I have of my mom when she was still well enough to walk. I was so proud of her because she participated in the Survivor's Parade and was one of the last women to walk in....a survivor for 17+ years! This year, I watched as those women in the 17+ years category walked by......wishing my mom was with them. Of course, she wasn't. BUT--it wasn't a loss. My heart was still full....I was happy for those whose loved ones were walking in the 17+ years category and hopeful they will have 17+ more years (and many more!) with their loved one.

At the tail end of the parade was my sister in law Debbi. She should have been in the 8+ years category but somehow she missed her group. She is an inspiration and I was proud to see her so strong walking with her fellow survivors. I was shocked to see how young some of the women were. It put even more emphasis on how important it is to find a cure this disease.

It was an amazing day. Many friends and family who are not able to participate in the Susan G Komen 3-Day for the Cure were there. My mom would be proud of Team Piggy Salt Lake City.
